What is Gum Contouring Procedure?

Firstly, your dentist confirms your goals and may use a pen to draw on your gums. Then your dentist uses local anesthesia to numb the treatment area. After that, your dentist uses a laser to trim away and shape the gum tissue.

Gum Contouring Recovery Process

It may take a few days or weeks for your gums to heal completely. Your dentist will give you specific directions about what you need to do to aid the recovery process.

• Avoid taking aspirin, which can cause bleeding.
• Follow your dentist’s directions on when and how to brush your teeth during the healing process.

Gum Contouring Aftercare

• You need to be careful with what you eat. Since your gums will be sensitive, you should not eat anything sharp or that could cut, poke, or irritate them in any way.
• Eat soft, cool foods, such as eggs, pasta, yogurt, cottage cheese, soft vegetables, and ice cream, for the first few days after surgery. Avoid spicy foods and anything with seeds until your gums have healed completely.
• You may also avoid smoking, drinking alcohol and using a straw. Your gums will feel tender so you must be very careful when brushing your teeth.

When You Should Call Your Dentist?

If you have pain while brushing, use a mouthwash for a day. If the problem persists, call your dentist.
